Local editing is beneficial when the base already solves the problem
If the face, posture and composition are successful, a small artifact is worth fixing. When the frame's design is wrong, the chain of edits accumulates drift and costs more than new generation. The solution depends on the area of the defect, its relationship to the scene and the value of parts already saved.
Rule locally, if you can accurately name the good
A good candidate for repair already has the right face, composition, posture and main action. The error occupies a limited area: an extra object, one hair edge, a small hand defect or a local color jump. You can describe the zone and the correction criterion without rearranging the whole scene.
- The base is valuable.Repeat may lose face, emotion or rare composition.
- The defect is isolated. It does not require changing the physics of the whole frame.
- There's context around. The model sees how to continue the background or material.
- We're checking it.It is clear that it must disappear or be preserved.
Start again if the main structure is broken.
The new generation is more rational when the main action is not performed, the personality is changed, posture, perspective or light of the whole scene is wrong. Correcting each symptom individually will rely on the already mistaken version and gradually consolidate its decisions.
Cascading facial editing is especially dangerous: first the model changes age, then it fixes skin on a new face, and then adjusts lighting. Three steps later, the image is technically cleaner but further away from the original person.
Evaluate area, connectivity, value and reversibility
| Situation | Decision | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| A small object on a simple background | rule | The zone is isolated. |
| Halo in a good portrait | rule | Basis is valuable |
| Another person. | freshly | Principal contract breached |
| Wrong posture and composition | freshly | Error related to the entire frame |
| Questionable hand after editing | rollback | Getting back to the right base |
Consider not attempts, but the risk of losing a successful one.
Local repairs can be more expensive than one new generation, but they retain a rare facial expression. Conversely, five cheap edits of bad composition don't create a strong foundation. Compare the expected value: what is already right, how likely it is to keep it and whether you can roll back.
Two edits without measurable improvement - a signal to change the path
Before each attempt, name one defect. If after two successive edits it remains or new damage of comparable scale appears, go back to the source or choose another candidate. Infinite repair turns randomness into a process with no completion criterion.
Write down the price of loss
In one line, say you can't lose face and emotion or the exact shape of a product or a lucky pose. If a fix requires redrawing that area, the risk is no longer local - it's better to go back a step or create a new candidate.
Keep a strong foundation and give up the weak without regrets.
Locality is justified when the defect is limited and the good parts are valuable. If the main point or the whole physics of the scene fails, new generation is usually faster and more predictable.
